I started out my celebration with having dinner with my parents on my actual birthday and helped build a new sectional sofa my parents got. Friday, I had a happy hour with colleagues and ended up eating sushi for a late dinner.
Finally, on Saturday, I met up with my girls and waited for my a couple of my favorite colleagues. We went to a place I had been meaning to try for a while now, Toki Underground. Miemo contacted the head chef and owner, Erik and somehow managed to get us "reservations". Typically that restaurant does not take reservations as it is first come first served. Trust me though, it s definitely worth the wait! My first cocktail was the Oolong Hai which was simply delicious. It was a spiked iced tea, unsweetened, but all the more delicious. I'm not going to lie though, I was a little jealous of Miemo and Kim's Toki Monster, not because I'm a huge fan of bourbon but because it came with small skewer of grilled pork belly.
I got a Dessert Bento Box but I didn't get to keep the box. I was going to do a pub crawl anyway, where am I going to store it? We tried every dumpling flavor and they were all equally amazing. Miemo and I decided to share a bowl of ramen instead of getting our own. Masumi Vegetarian was our choice and it was delicious. Next time I go though, I'm getting my own bowl. The music they played there was great and it went along with the theme of the restaurant. There are board decks that line the railings, the bar counter is pinball machines, and there are figurines that line the wall. It fits in perfectly with the H Street Corridor and at the same time, is unique.
My pub crawl turned into more of a food crawl. We ended up getting drinks at Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar where my friend Saleh had a cup of Awesomeness. Seriously, that's the name of the drink. It was actually pretty good despite the fact it's a frozen drink.
After a round of drinks at LMWGD, we went to Dangerously Delicious Pies. I got the Baltimore Bomb and scarfed it down. I took a break from drinking and had a cup of 2% milk with my pie. I don't know why I waited so long to try this place. Who knew pie could be so scrumptious..you know..besides me.
Here are my favorites, Deanna and Miemo. They are such great girls. I am so blessed to have them in my life. They keep me grounded and made my birthday even more special. I had a great night with them and also got to hang out with Kim again. We shared such an awesome moment and created memories. We even have new inside jokes!
We went to H Street Country Club for mini golf and ended the night at Blackbyrd in U Street where the head chef of Toki Underground was spinning. Initially we were heading to Marvin's but realized Blackbyrd was right next door and we knew Erik was going to be spinning there.
Here's the rest of the night:

Somehow I even got one of the staff members at H Street Country Club to take a shot with me, nice people there. This birthday turned out to be great and I got to spend it being surrounded by people who love me and that are awesome. They took care of me the whole night--as in spoiled me..I couldn't ask for anything more!
